WUHAN, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A special exhibition named "Mythological Jade of Shijiahe Culture" opened Thursday in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province. The exhibition showcases a total of 172 cultural relics from the Shijiahe site, which is the ruins of a prehistoric city in Hubei Province, as well as from 20 other cultural institutions and museums across the country. Together, they depict the diverse and integrated development pattern of Chinese civilization.
With a history dating back 3,800 to 5,900 years, the Shijiahe site is considered the largest and most enduring prehistoric settlement site in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The site has been the subject of excavations of large sacrificial sites and a significant number of exquisite jade artifacts.
