CAIRO, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Millions of Egyptians took to the streets on Monday in a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, protesting against any attempts to displace them from their land, Egypt's State Information Service (SIS) said.
The SIS said in a statement that demonstrators, carrying Palestinian and Egyptian flags, gathered in public squares and mosques across the country following Eid al-Fitr prayers, denouncing Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
The crowds expressed support for Egypt's political leadership and its stance against what they called the "bloody aggression" on Gaza. The demonstrators urged the international community to take swift action to end the conflict and to support the Palestinian cause.
Egypt has repeatedly rejected the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and has stepped up efforts to counter a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump, announced in January, to relocate Gaza's residents to Egypt and Jordan.
As part of its response, Egypt has put forward an alternative reconstruction and development plan for Gaza, which was endorsed at an emergency Arab summit in Cairo earlier in March. ■
