KABUL, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Counter-narcotics police discovered and destroyed more than 304 tons of illicit drugs during the year of 1403 in the Persian calendar ending on March 20, 2025 in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, provincial police spokesman Mullah Assadullah Jamshid said Thursday.
A total of 304.4 tons of illicit drugs, including heroin, opium poppy, hashish, addictive tablets, and objects used in manufacturing heroin, were discovered in 446 operations in the provincial capital Kandahar City and 19 districts over the period, the officer said.
Police also arrested 222 individuals on charges of involvement in drug business and referred them to concerned bodies for investigation, the officer said.
The Afghan interim government has vowed to fight against illicit drugs until the country becomes a drug-free nation. ■
