TALUQAN, Afghanistan, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Police arrested an alleged drug smuggler and discovered 27 kg of opium in his possession in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province on Monday, Qari Zabihullah Hakimi, acting head for public relations of the provincial police office, said on Tuesday.
The man was attempting to smuggle the drug from Darqad district to an unknown destination, and police detained him and began investigations.
The officer said that police would spare no efforts to check drug production and trafficking in the province. ■
