ALMATY, March 20 (Xinhua) -- A 40-year-old miner died and a 36-year-old miner was injured following a rock collapse inside the Zapadnaya shaft of the Bestobe mine in the Akmola region, Northern Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reported on Thursday.
The incident, involving two miners from the Bestobe Mine branch operated by Kazakhaltyn, a gold mining company, took place on Wednesday in Stepnogorsk town in the Akmola Region, according to local authorities.
The miners were brought to the surface in the afternoon. The sole survivor was provided medical assistance and taken to a hospital in Stepnogorsk. The body of the other miner was brought out for a post-mortem examination, said the department.
A special commission has been set up to investigate the causes of the incident. ■
