ULAN BATOR, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Sixty-five people have lost their lives in water-related accidents across Mongolia since the beginning of this year, the country's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported on Friday.
Of the victims, 52 were adults and 13 were children, the NEMA disclosed. The primary causes of these fatalities included swimming under the influence of alcohol, negligence, leaving children unsupervised, and attempting to cross rivers in vehicles.
Simultaneously, it reported that at least 1,044 people, predominantly men, have lost their lives in water-related accidents over the past decade.
The emergency agency urged the public to remain vigilant regarding water hazards, as rainfall is expected across most parts of the country starting Saturday and continuing until the middle of next week, potentially causing rivers to rise and flood. ■
