TASHKENT, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a concessional loan of 100 million U.S. dollars to Uzbekistan for improving the country's perinatal medical services, said the ADB press service on Tuesday.
"The Asian Development Bank has approved a concessional loan of 100 million U.S. dollars to help the government of Uzbekistan improve perinatal medical services for pregnant women and their newborns," the press said in a statement.
It is reported that the comprehensive perinatal care project will help the government modernize about 230 perinatal centers across the country, equipping them with modern energy-efficient medical equipment, updated clinical standards and protocols, improved medical staff capacity, and quality assurance mechanisms.
Official statistics showed Uzbekistan's permanent population has exceeded 37 million in April. ■
