TEHRAN, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The second round of Iran's 12th parliamentary election will be held on May 10, 2024, according to a press release published on the website of the Interior Ministry on Monday.
The voting process would be completely electronic in eight out of the total 21 electoral districts, including the capital Tehran, Tabriz, Abadan, Shiraz, Kermanshah, Khorramabad, Chegeni, and Malayer, the press release quoted Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson for Iran's election headquarters, as saying.
Eslami said that based on Iran's law, the date was proposed by the Interior Ministry and approved by the country's Constitutional Council, which will supervise the elections.
In the second round of the election, the candidates will compete for the remaining 44 seats in the parliament after 246 candidates were elected in the first round of voting, according to the ministry.
The first round of the parliamentary election was held at 59,000 polling stations across Iran on March 1, in which more than 15,000 candidates competed for positions in the legislative body. ■
