BEIRUT, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Three Hezbollah fighters were killed and three civilians were injured on Friday in Israeli airstrikes targeting towns and villages in southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.
The sources, who spoke anonymously, said that one of the Israeli raids targeted a house in the village of Blida, killing three Hezbollah members, while another raid targeted the town of Baraachit, wounding three civilians.
The military sources said that Israeli forces carried out six airstrikes on four towns and villages in the border region of southern Lebanon and fired 35 shells at eight towns and villages in the south, destroying five houses and damaging over 15 others.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said its fighters attacked several Israeli sites, including al-Radar, Ruwaisat Al-Alam and Avivim.
The Lebanon-Israel border has been witnessing increased tension since Oct. 8, 2023, after Lebanese armed group Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets toward Israel in support of the Hamas attack on Israel the previous day, prompting Israel to respond by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
The confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel have killed 345 people on the Lebanese side, including 231 Hezbollah members and 66 civilians, according to Lebanese security sources. ■
