ULAN BATOR, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- A female nomadic herder was killed due to heavy snow and blizzards that swept through large parts of Mongolia over the past three days, the country's National Emergency Management Agency said Monday.
"Forty-nine people who were missing in the snow and snow storms have been found alive. Unfortunately, a 50-year-old woman was killed in the western province of Khovd due to the storms," the agency said in a statement.
Almost all provinces of Mongolia have experienced harsh weather conditions this winter, and over 80 percent of the country has been blanketed by snow, it said.
Mongolia, one of the last nomadic countries in the world, has a harsh continental climate with frequent strong winds, snow and dust storms. ■
