AMMAN, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Jordan received less than a third of the 2.2 billion U.S. dollars it needed in 2023 for its response plan to assist Syrian refugees and their host communities, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said on Wednesday.
According to the state-run Al Mamlaka TV, the ministry reported that only 663 million U.S. dollars, or 29.2 percent of the total needs, were secured in 2023, leaving a funding gap of about 1.612 billion U.S. dollars.
The ministry said that out of the total aid received, 142.9 million dollars went to support service projects in host communities, 31.4 million dollars to support the general budget, and 489 million dollars to support Syrian refugees.
Jordan is home to more than 1.3 million Syrians, of whom nearly 660,000 are registered refugees with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. ■
