ISLAMABAD, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- At least 155 new cases of dengue fever have been reported in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province in the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday.

According to officials from the Ministry of Health in Punjab, the new cases surfaced in various parts of the province, increasing the overall tally to 4,831 since the start of this year.

Lahore, the capital of Punjab, remained the hardest-hit city with 1,907 cases, followed by districts of Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, with 1,340, 562, 221, and 213 cases, respectively.

Currently, 188 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals across the province, with 69 of them in Lahore, according to the officials.

The government has launched an anti-dengue campaign in the province by increasing public awareness, sealing buildings and premises, imposing fines, and registering cases for violation of anti-dengue advisories.
