SUVA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Fiji is setting the bar for ocean conservation with the Blue Prosperity Marine Spatial Planning Workshop underway in Nadi, the country's third-largest city.
The workshop brings together stakeholders, leaders, and ocean specialists from the Maldives, Bermuda, the Azores, and other locations, to address the pressing issue of protecting the oceans and wisely managing their resources.
While addressing the event on Tuesday, Sakiusa Tubuna, Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, urged international cooperation in resolving issues endangering oceans, such as decreasing fish populations, coral bleaching, and rising sea levels.
"Together, we aim to protect and manage 30 percent of the oceans. Stay strong by working together and being committed, we can ensure healthy oceans and thriving communities," Tubuna said.
The five-day workshop will conclude on Friday. ■
