TEHRAN, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Saturday that an IRGC serviceman was killed in clashes with "anti-revolutionary" outlaws in the northwestern province of Kurdestan, IRIB news agency reported.

The clashes occurred on Friday night in a border area of Marivan County, the report said, quoting a statement by the IRGC Ground Force's Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada Base.

The statement identified the killed IRGC serviceman as Rozgar Tabireh, adding the IRGC forces will continue their operations in northwestern Iran's border areas to ensure security and clear the region of all anti-revolutionary groups.

Commander of Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada Base Mohammad Taqi Osanlou said on Wednesday that the IRGC's Ground Force staged a military exercise in Kurdestan, noting that the Kusalan heights in Sarvabad city have been totally cleared of the members of the hostile anti-revolutionary groups, according to semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

Last year, the IRGC repeatedly pounded the positions of what it called "separatist groups" in Iraq's Kurdistan region near the common border.
