NEW YORK, April 21 (Xinhua) -- New York City, the most populous city in the United States, is set to celebrate the annual Earth Day on Saturday with numerous thematic activities.

One day before the Earth Day, which falls on April 22, students from New York University staged an Earth Day Fair on Friday afternoon at Schwartz Plaza featuring giveaways, information tables and celebrations.

In partnership with GrowNYC, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainability, New York University also held a "Stop 'N' Swap" event at Schwartz Plaza allowing residents to bring clothing, house wares, games, books, toys and other reusable and portable items or take home something for free.

The above-mentioned events, as part of a week-long initiative on climate neutrality by New York University, attracted many local residents and students.

Numerous events will also be held at over 30 locations across New York City on Saturday for a Car-Free Earth Day.

New Yorkers are encouraged to ride bikes taking advantage of the "Open Streets" program and free riding offering from bike sharing platform Citi Bike.

Performances, fitness classes and educational activities will take place in the car-free streets, according to the New York City Department of Transportation.
