BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.02 percent to 3,167.86 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.56 percent lower at 11,295.03 points.
The turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 761.4 billion yuan (about 109 billion U.S. dollars), down from 762.5 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to hotel and tourism led the gains, while those of ship-building saw losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.06 percent to close at 2,373.71 points Friday. ■
