BUCHAREST, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Romania's military on Thursday neutralized yet another live marine mine some 40 kilometers off the port of Constanta, sources with the Romanian Naval Forces said.
This is the third time that the Romanian navy has located and destroyed a drifting mine in its areas of responsibility in less than six months. Two previous live mines in the Romanian section of the Black Sea were destroyed on March 28 and July 31, respectively.
Mines began floating in the Black Sea after the military conflict broke out between Russia and Ukraine, endangering maritime traffic. So far, 29 maritime mines have been discovered in the western part of the Black Sea.
Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of planting Soviet-era naval mines in the northern Black Sea. ■
