YANGON, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar confirmed 70 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 615,559, according to the Ministry of Health on Sunday.
The ministry said in a statement that these cases included two infected people who returned from abroad.
The statement said that health authorities tested 6,464 people for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 1.08 percent.
The death toll from COVID-19 in the country rose to 19,440 as one new death was reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry said.
The total number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 in the country rose to 593,794, including 49 new recoveries on Sunday.
The Southeast Asian country detected its first COVID-19 cases in March 2020. ■
