ULAN BATOR, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's foreign debt stood at 33.9 billion U.S. dollars at the end of the first quarter of this year, up 4.6 percent from the same period last year, official data showed.
Of the total foreign debt, the debt of the government stood at 8.4 billion dollars, and the central bank's debt was 2.6 billion dollars, the National Statistics Office said.
It added that the government's debt grew by 1.6 percent from the previous quarter and 0.8 percent from a year ago.
Mongolia is a landlocked East Asian country with a population of around 3.4 million. The mining sector is currently the top source of national income. ■
