BOGOTA, May 2 (Xinhua) -- A car bomb on Monday left at least one person injured and caused considerable material damage outside the mayor's office in the Colombian city of Argelia in the department of Cauca, local authorities said.
Mayor Jhonnatan Patino said the injured person was a security guard who was in the building at the time of the blast, which also affected nearby buildings, including the municipal library.
"A car bomb exploded outside the mayor's office ... you can see the destruction. The library totally destroyed," the official posted on social media.
Dissident guerrillas from the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), as well as National Liberation Army rebels, are active in the region.
In addition, Cauca is home to the Gulf Clan (Clan del Golfo), a criminal ring made up mostly of former paramilitaries now fighting for control of drug trafficking routes.
President Ivan Duque condemned the attack via Twitter and announced an "extraordinary security council" meeting to address it, vowing to find those responsible. ■
