In February 2021, the Butantan Institute of Brazil's Sao Paulo State carried out a clinical trial known as "Project S" in the city of Serrana to fully vaccinate eligible adults with Chinese-made CoronaVac vaccines and analyze the effectiveness over a year's time.
The project ended in success. CoronaVac is capable of "reducing deaths, severe cases, and hospitalizations" and "is a safe and effective vaccine against SARS-CoV-2," according to the institute.
