GLOBALink | World Firefighting and Rescue Championship opens in NE China's Harbin

HARBIN, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) --The 19th men's and 10th women's World Firefighting and Rescue Championship, held by the International Sport Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers, kicked off here on Saturday. 

This edition of championship marks the largest scale in the event's history. A total of 11 nations are going to compete in this championship, with nine nations and two international organizations observing, bringing the total number of participants to over 320.

Initiated by the International Sport Federation of Firefighters and Rescuers, the event is known as the "Firefighting Olympics", aiming to deepen the exchange of global firefighting sports and promote the development of emergency management, firefighting and rescue services.

The Chinese team will send 10 male athletes to compete in all events, and 10 female athletes to participate in two team events. This marks the first appearance of Chinese female team in this championship.
