BAKU, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Four soldiers were found dead in western Azerbaijan's Lachin region, reportedly due to hydrogen sulfide poisoning, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday.

The ministry said their bodies were discovered in a thermal spring in Lachin.

Initial reports suggested they died from hydrogen sulfide poisoning while bathing off-duty.

Preliminary findings indicated that the soldiers were poisoned on Tuesday during their visit to the thermal spring.

An investigation is ongoing at the Gubadly Military Prosecutor's Office, said Firad Aliyev, senior assistant to the Military Prosecutor and head of the press service of the Military Prosecutor's Office.

A comprehensive inspection of the scene and the bodies has been completed, with evidence collected, relevant examinations ordered, and statements obtained, according to Aliyev.
