ST. PETERSBURG, March 31 (Xinhua) -- A Russian company has developed an analogue of IMAX technology and named it Cosmax, Russian newspaper Saint-Petersburg Vedomosti reported on Thursday.
Cosmax was developed by film distributor Central Partnership. According to the company's CEO, the cost of developing Cosmax amounted to approximately 5 million rubles (about 67,400 U.S. dollars). Films in this format require high-quality digital projector and sound equipment. The company is currently applying for a patent for Cosmax.
The first film released in the new format will be The Challenge, part of which was filmed in space.
IMAX technology is owned by a Canadian company of the same name, which terminated operations in Russia since June 2022. ■
