KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of unemployed in Malaysia in June declined 0.1 percent to 565,300 persons from May, with a 3.3 percent unemployment rate, official data showed Friday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the country's labor force position remained in a positive growth trend with a marginal increase in the number of employed persons, while the unemployed continued to decrease following the expansion of the economic position.
Therefore, the number of labor force continued to increase in June, with a month-on-month rise of 0.1 percent to 17.17 million persons, registering a higher labor force participation rate (LFPR) during the month at 70.4 percent.
According to DOSM, the number of employed persons in June continued to trend up by 0.2 percent month on month to 16.61 million persons.
During the second quarter, the number of the labor force posted a positive trend, rising 1.1 percent to 17.15 million persons from the first quarter.
Subsequently, the LFPR rose by 0.3 percentage points quarter on quarter to 70.5 percent.
In line with this, the number of employed persons went up by 1.2 percent quarter on quarter, reaching 16.59 million persons.
Meanwhile, the number of unemployed persons decreased 0.6 percent quarter on quarter to 557,800 persons, recording 3.3 percent of the unemployment rate in the second quarter.
"The country's labor market is foreseen to continue to be in a stable growth momentum due to the country's encouraging economic position as well as the continuous increase in tourist arrivals and better growth in all sectors of the economy," DOSM said. ■
