India's eight core industries production rise 4 pct: ministry

NEW DELHI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The combined production index of India's eight core industries recorded an increase of 4 percent in June from a year earlier, showed data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.

India's eight core industries involve cement, coal, crude oil, electricity, fertilizers, natural gas, petroleum refinery products and steel.

While the production of coal, electricity, natural gas, steel, fertilizers, and cement recorded a positive growth, the crude oil and petroleum refinery production declined, showed the data.

The production of cement increased by 1.9 percent year on year in June, coal by 14.8 percent, electricity generation by 7.7 percent, fertilizers by 2.4 percent, natural gas by 3.3 percent, and steel by 2.7 percent.

Meanwhile, crude oil production declined by 2.6 percent, and petroleum refinery production fell by 1.5 percent.
