SEOUL, July 5 (Xinhua) -- South Korean tech giant LG electronics posted a double-digit growth in its second-quarter operating profit due to strong sales of air conditioners, the company said Friday.
Preliminary operating profit surged 61.2 percent from a year earlier to 1.2 trillion won (869.8 million U.S. dollars) in the April-June quarter, topping marketing expectations of about 1 trillion won (724.8 million dollars).
Preliminary revenue expanded 8.5 percent to 21.7 trillion won (15.7 billion dollars) in the cited quarter.
Both revenue and operating profit set new records for the second quarter, the company noted.
The positive earnings came mainly from the strong sales of air conditioners, driven by seasonal demand.
Net income and detailed earnings in each business unit will be unveiled later this month. ■
