KABUL, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Transit shipments via Afghan customs departments has increased up to over 2,000 daily following upgrade of customs departments' facilities at the country's crossing points, local media said Sunday.

The improved facilities include installation of scanners, and placing electronic systems by the country's finance ministry, Bakhtar news agency reported, adding that working hours were also extended from 16 to 24 hours.

More than 2,400 shipments, including 1,880 imports, 430 export and some 100 transit shipments totaling over 60,000 tons take place daily, the report added.

In the meantime, the Afghan caretaker government has been calling upon the local and foreign companies to invest in the war-torn country and enhance trade and economic relations with the regional nations.
