YANGON, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will hold a horse racing competition at Yangon Equestrian & Country Club to mark the 77th anniversary of Union Day, U Htay Kyaw, general secretary of the Myanmar Equestrian Federation told Xinhua on Tuesday.
The competition will be held from Feb. 5 to Feb. 12. A total of 183 horses including 25 horses from Ayeyarwady region, 27 from Bago region, 49 from Mandalay region and 82 from Yangon region will compete in the race.
Myanmar's traditional rides and international rides such as jumping and dressage will be included in the competition.
"It would be better if we could have more competitions in sports. By holding such competitions, the number of riders will increase and there will be more opportunities to select elite riders through competitions to compete in ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) competitions," U Htay Kyaw said. ■
