Europe's largest carmaker Volkswagen recently denounced the EU's decision to implement import duties of up to 37.6 percent on Chinese electric vehicles, highlighting that they would have adverse effects on the European automotive industry, according to Reuters.
"The timing of the EU Commission's decision is detrimental to the current weak demand for BEV vehicles in Germany and Europe," a spokesperson with Volkswagen said in a statement.
