From Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Kyrgyzstan -- his first in seven years -- and attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2026 in Bishkek.
During the state visit, Xi and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a joint declaration on the high-quality development of the comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era and a bilateral treaty on permanent good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation.
At the SCO Summit, Xi put forward a four-point proposal, calling on the SCO to stay committed to putting development and the people first, taking security as a key goal, and promoting dialogue and consultation.
