NEW YORK, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A commercial structure in Parkersburg, U.S. West Virginia, was engulfed in fire on Sunday, prompting local officials to implement a shelter-in-place order in the vicinity area, according to multiple reports.
The fire started from cardboard boxes at a Peoples Cartage, Inc. warehouse on Saturday morning and rekindled on Sunday morning, according to Wood County Emergency Management. Three warehouses are now involved.
"For everyone's safety, we're asking the public to stay clear of the vicinity until operations are complete," said Wood County Emergency Management on social media. Multiple roads are temporarily closed in the area.
The blaze released thick, black smoke and flames which were visible from a long distance, according to videos circulated on the Internet.
Efforts are still under way to contain the fire and local authorities have not issued information on losses of life or property.
Recently, a fire broke out at a large warehouse in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles, generating heavy smoke that has spread across parts of the metropolitan area for several days. ■
