BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.37 percent to 4,043.64 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.64 percent higher at 15,597.51 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices reached 3.18 trillion yuan (about 467.32 billion U.S. dollars), down from 3.45 trillion yuan in the previous trading day.

Precious metals, electric motors and military equipment sectors led the gains, while shares related to electronic chemicals, fluorochemicals and glass substrates led the declines.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.07 percent to close at 4,019.93 points Friday.

The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.35 percent lower at 2,338.13 points on Friday.
