Secret Service agent shot at White House Correspondents' Dinner

A U.S. Secret Service agent was shot in protective gear on Saturday at the White House Correspondents' Dinner and has been hospitalized, U.S. media reported.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a photo of the suspected gunman, who appears to have been subdued, with his hands bound behind his back and lying face down on the ground.

In a press conference at the White House late Saturday evening, Trump said that the alleged shooter lives in the state of California and law enforcement agents went to his apartment.

When asked by a reporter whether the shooter acted alone, Trump said that "they seem to think he was a lone wolf, and I feel that too."

Iranian FM in Pakistan for 2nd visit in a day after Oman trip

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Sunday for a second visit within around 24 hours, returning from a brief stop in Oman as diplomatic activity over the region's fragile ceasefire intensified, Iran's Mehr news agency reported.

In Oman, Araghchi met Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, where he said the 40-day war with the United States and Israel had demonstrated that American military presence in the Middle East fuelled instability, and called on regional states to build collective security arrangements excluding Washington, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

The sultan reaffirmed Oman's commitment to regional peace and expressed hope for a swift and lasting end to hostilities, the Omani Foreign Ministry said.

Trump says U.S. will no longer send delegations to talk with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that he will no longer send delegations to talk with Iran.

"If they (the Iranians) want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us," Trump told Fox News.

"If they want, we can talk. But we're not sending people to travel 18 hours to meet," he said.

Trump said that he has great respect for Pakistan, which had been hosting U.S.-Iranian talks in Islamabad, and that Pakistan will stay involved.

2 former Israeli PMs join forces to challenge Netanyahu ahead of elections

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid and former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said on Sunday that they will run together in this year's elections, aiming to unseat incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Lapid, head of the centrist Yesh Atid party, said in a statement that the move intends to "unite the bloc, put an end to internal divisions and focus all efforts on winning the critical upcoming elections."

Lapid and Bennett, a right-wing figure who supports West Bank settlements, served as prime ministers in a rotation arrangement within a coalition government from June 2021 to December 2022.

4 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in Gaza, medical evacuations continue through Rafah

Four Palestinians, including a woman, were killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, while medical evacuations of the wounded and sick continued through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.

Eyewitnesses and local sources told Xinhua an Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of Palestinians in the al-Zeitoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City, killing three people.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old woman was killed south of Khan Younis, southern Gaza, said Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza. Witnesses reported that Israeli military vehicles opened fire toward tents housing displaced persons in the area.

Palestinian election commission announces results of local elections in West Bank, Gaza

The Palestinian Central Elections Commission on Sunday announced final results from local elections held in 183 municipalities across the occupied West Bank and in the Gaza Strip city of Deir al-Balah.

Commission chairman Rami Hamdallah said at a news conference in al-Bireh that the vote took place under "extremely complex" conditions but was conducted with "integrity and transparency."

He said the inclusion of Deir al-Balah reflected efforts to treat the West Bank and Gaza as a single geographic unit, despite major obstacles.

Hamdallah said Israeli authorities refused to allow election materials into Deir al-Balah, forcing local officials to produce ballots and boxes locally so voting could go ahead.

Lebanon reports over 2,500 killed in Israeli attacks since March

The total number of people killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since early March has risen to 2,509, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said on Sunday.

The ministry added that at least 7,755 people have been wounded since March 2, as the conflict continues to take a heavy toll on the country despite a U.S.-mediated ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said on Sunday that its attacks are a legitimate response to repeated Israeli ceasefire violations, warning that continued strikes or the occupation of Lebanese land would be met with resistance.
