CHANGSHA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The government of central China's Hunan Province on Thursday released the investigation report on a fatal fireworks factory explosion in Linli County under the city of Changde.
The blast occurred at 8:23 a.m. on June 16, 2025 at Hunan Shanzhou Fireworks Co., Ltd., killing nine people, injuring 26 and causing direct economic losses of 23.19 million yuan (about 3.44 million U.S. dollars).
Investigators determined that an employee illegally used an electric tricycle to carry 500 kg of pyrotechnic pellets between workshops. The tricycle overturned and the pellets exploded due to the impact and friction, triggering explosions and fires in multiple buildings.
Eleven people allegedly responsible for the accident are awaiting trial, while 32 public officials from multiple departments found guilty of dereliction of duty have been held accountable, according to the report. ■
