LUSAKA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Yu Juanjuan, an obstetrician-gynecologist with the 26th Chinese medical team in Zambia, served at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital, where she trained local medical staff, shared standardized medical practices, and helped improve the quality of local obstetric and gynecological care.
In September 2025, Yu treated a rare case of abdominal pregnancy, in which the fetus had developed outside the uterus in the abdominal cavity, putting the mother at risk of life-threatening internal bleeding. Following a challenging surgery, the mother, Agness, was brought out of danger.
Yu said that she hopes her patients can feel the care, goodwill and strength that come from China in their most difficult moments, adding that this is what makes China's medical aid to Africa meaningful and a commitment she will uphold throughout her life as a doctor.
