BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Beijing's Shougang Park saw its last blast furnace shut down in 2010, marking the end of more than a century of steelmaking. After more than a decade of transformation, the former industrial site now blends preserved steel structures with modern architecture and green spaces.
The park hosted the Big Air Shougang, a landmark venue of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and has since evolved into a hub for exhibitions, commerce, sports and cultural tourism. It is now the permanent venue of the China International Fair for Trade in Services and has also attracted businesses in emerging fields such as science fiction and technology.
From an old industrial site to a vibrant urban destination, Shougang Park offers a vivid example of how China is transforming its traditional industrial bases.
