Hongshan Culture is one of China's most important prehistoric archaeological cultures dating back approximately 5,000 to 6,000 years. It had a profound impact on the subsequent development of Chinese civilization.

The Niuheliang site, discovered in 1981 in the city of Chaoyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province, represents a milestone in the study of Hongshan. It's renowned for the wealth of exquisite jade artifacts, statues, altars and stone tombs discovered there.
