Washington's sanctions have sunk to a ridiculous new low, targeting Chinese sunflower seeds and frozen dumplings -- along with dozens of other companies -- over baseless "forced labor" claims, while citing the need to strengthen its "economic and national security."
At this rate, the next Pentagon threat assessment may need a grocery section.
Whatever label Washington chooses to apply, the latest additions show just how "elastic" the U.S. sanctions apparatus has become. It seems policymakers have run out of credible excuses and have now resorted to an absurd weaponizing of snack time.
