A South African industry insider says Africa-China cooperation is strengthening infrastructure, industrial capacity and local skills while opening opportunities in renewable energy, digital technology and agricultural modernization across the continent.

JOHANNESBURG, June 27 (Xinhua) -- From highways and power plants to industrial parks and agricultural initiatives, Africa-China cooperation is helping African countries improve connectivity, expand economic opportunities and advance modernization, a South African industry insider has said.
"Chinese investment has played a major role in changing the economic landscape of many African countries. We've seen new infrastructure, more jobs being created, and greater opportunities for local businesses to grow and participate in the economy," said Raymond Rutendo Mafunga, director of Ruemaf Development Projects, a Johannesburg-based consultancy and construction firm.
Africa-China cooperation has become a key driver of sustainable growth and shared prosperity as the partnership continues to expand, Mafunga told Xinhua in an interview.
"Projects supported by China in areas like transport, energy, agriculture and manufacturing are helping countries tackle long-standing development challenges. They are improving connectivity, increasing productivity and making it easier for businesses and communities to thrive," he said, citing the Matlali-Mosenekeng to Lebakeng Road Upgrade Project in Lesotho and the expansion of Zimbabwe's Kariba South Hydropower Station as examples.
The benefits of Africa-China cooperation extend beyond financing, Mafunga said.
"There has also been meaningful progress in skills development, technology transfer and building local capacity, which helps ensure that the benefits are felt long after projects are completed," he said.
Mafunga said Chinese companies operating in Africa have become important partners in narrowing infrastructure gaps, promoting industrialization and supporting economic diversification.
The director also expected deeper and broader cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, digital technology, agricultural modernization and vocational training.
"By sharing knowledge, investing in innovation and developing critical infrastructure, African countries are gaining the tools they need to pursue their long-term development ambitions," he said.
As African countries advance their modernization efforts, cooperation with China remains an important source of support, helping improve livelihoods and create new opportunities across the continent, Mafunga said.
Describing the partnership as one built on mutual respect, shared interests and a commitment to development, he said, "The relationship between Africa and China has matured over the years and continues to deliver benefits for both sides."■
