BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.73 percent to 4,068.57 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.81 percent lower at 15,575.13 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 3.34 trillion yuan (about 489.9 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.97 trillion yuan during the previous trading day.
Liquor, coal mining and processing, as well as electricity sectors led the gains, while shares related to semiconductors and MicroLED were among the top decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.11 percent to close at 4,037.95 points Friday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 4.77 percent lower at 2,070.58 points on Friday. ■
