Iran's president says U.S., Israel seek to sow division among Muslim states

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said here Sunday the United States and Israel have always sought to turn Muslim states against one another through creating division and distrust among them.

During a meeting with visiting Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Pezeshkian said Iran seeks "cordial and lasting relations based on good neighborliness" with Muslim states in the West Asia region, read a presidency statement.

Iran's principled policy is based on expanding friendly ties with neighboring and regional states, he said, urging the Muslim world's major countries to help establish lasting peace, security and stability in the region through strengthening cooperation and interactions.

Israeli economy shrinks due to war with Iran

Israel's gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by an annual rate of 3.3 percent in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the previous quarter, according to figures issued by the state's Central Bureau of Statistics on Sunday.

This marks a reversal after Israel's economy grew 2.9 percent in the fourth quarter and maintained that pace through 2025.

Business activity contracted at a 3.1 percent annualized rate in the first quarter, reversing a 5.4 percent expansion, while private consumption dropped 4.7 percent after falling 4.6 percent in the previous quarter.

5 killed, 15 wounded in Israeli strikes across S. Lebanon

At least five people, including two children, were killed and 15 others wounded on Sunday as Israeli strikes intensified across southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese sources.

Three people, including a child, were killed and eight others, including three children, were wounded in an Israeli strike on the town of Tayr Felsay, the Lebanese Health Ministry's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said.

Canada confirms 1st hantavirus case

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has confirmed a case of hantavirus in a cruise passenger currently isolating in British Columbia following laboratory testing.

PHAC said in a statement on Sunday that samples from British Columbia were sent to the agency's National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) in Winnipeg for confirmatory testing.

According to the agency, one individual's sample was confirmed positive for hantavirus on Saturday. A second individual, a travelling partner of the confirmed case, was confirmed negative.

Israel moves to apply controversial death penalty law to Palestinians in West Bank

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Sunday that Israel's military has signed an order allowing a newly-passed death penalty law to be applied to Palestinians convicted of killing Jews in the occupied West Bank, marking the first step toward implementing the controversial law.

In a statement, Katz said he has instructed the military to begin implementing the law after it was approved by parliament on March 30. He said the move sent a "clear message" that attackers who kill Jews would "pay the heaviest price."

The procedure for applying the law was outlined in an amendment to a military order signed by Israel's military commander in the West Bank.
