2 U.S. service members missing after military exercises in Morocco, says U.S. Africa Command
Two U.S. service members are missing near the city of Tan Tan, southwestern Morocco, after participating in annual multinational military exercises in the country, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) said Sunday.
"The incident remains under investigation," it said in a statement, adding that the search and rescue operation is ongoing.
The two service members who went missing on Saturday were participating in African Lion, AFRICOM's largest annual joint exercise, designed to "strengthen interoperability" among U.S. forces, NATO allies and African partner nations, according to U.S. Army Europe and Africa.
Trump says U.S. to begin guiding ships out of Strait of Hormuz Monday morning
U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that the United States will begin guiding ships out of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday morning, Middle East time.
Calling the action "Project Freedom," Trump said it is "a humanitarian gesture."
Iran says U.S. has responded to Tehran's 14-point plan to end war
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Sunday the United States has responded to Iran's 14-point proposed plan to end the war.
He made the remarks in an interview with state-run IRIB TV while noting that the U.S. response is being reviewed.
He stressed that Iran's plan is exclusively focused on ending the war, and "nothing pertaining to the nuclear field's details exists in it."
7 OPEC+ countries to increase oil production in June
OPEC said in a communique on Sunday that seven OPEC+ countries decided to increase their oil production cap by 188,000 barrels per day in June, in response to the withdrawal of the United Arab Emirates from the bloc.
The seven countries -- Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman -- made the decision during a virtual meeting on Sunday to review global market conditions and outlook.
The increase, which will be implemented in June 2026, is part of adjustments to the additional voluntary production cuts first announced in April 2023.
Trump says U.S. plans to withdraw troops from Germany "a lot further"
U.S. President Donald Trump said Saturday the United States plans to withdraw "a lot further" than the 5,000 troops from Germany that the Pentagon had said earlier this week.
"We're going to cut way down, and we're cutting a lot further than 5,000," Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One in the southeastern U.S. state of Florida.
The Pentagon on Friday announced the withdrawal of about 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany, which is expected to be completed over the next six to 12 months.■
