In Kunyu city, located on the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert in northwest China's Xinjiang, 8,000 mu (533 hectares) of winter wheat is transforming barren sand into a series of lush oases. From above, the landscape reveals massive center-pivot irrigation systems, with 380-meter arms that rotate like giant compasses, spraying water from 180 synchronized nozzles to create circular fields. This method is not only visually striking but also highly efficient, reducing water usage by 20 to 30 cubic meters per mu compared to traditional flooding techniques. This demonstrates that even one of the world's harshest deserts can be converted into thriving farmland through innovative engineering.
