It is naive to believe that the ongoing U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran will lead to anything good, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez wrote in an op-ed for The Economist on Friday.
"This war is illegal, a major threat to the rules-based international order, and contrary to the interests of humanity," he warned, calling for ceasefire and a return to diplomacy.
The Spanish leader also defended his decision to deny U.S. access to its military bases, saying even allies must refuse "blind obedience down a reckless path."
"War is not the answer," he stressed, invoking the lessons from the Iraq War. "History has already tested that formula -- and it does not work."
