BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.33 percent to 4,136.16 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.79 percent higher at 14,439.66 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 3.09 trillion yuan (about 441.88 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.69 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to furniture, non-ferrous metals and aircraft manufacturing led the gains, while shares in the ceramics and financial sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.63 percent to close at 3,349.5 points on Friday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.85 percent higher on Friday at 1,899.78 points. ■
