BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.14 percent to 4,122.58 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.50 percent higher at 14,327.05 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices totaled 2.69 trillion yuan (about 384.18 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.6 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to commercial spaceflight, robotics, and the oil and gas industries led the gains, while shares in the insurance, semiconductor, and pharmaceutical sectors suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.01 percent to close at 3,328.65 points Thursday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.14 percent higher at 1,865.34 points on Thursday. ■
