BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. China beat Indonesia to claim Thomas & Uber Cup
China's men's team reclaimed badminton's Thomas Cup after a six-year wait with a 3-1 victory over Indonesia, while the women's team also regained the Uber Cup for the first time since 2020 after whitewashing Indonesia 3-0 on May 5.
In the Thomas Cup final, Shi Yuqi and Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang put China ahead 2-0, but Li Shifeng lost 2-1 to Jonatan Christie. He Jiting/Ren Xiangyu delivered the final victory for China to win their 11th title.
Their women's counterparts won their 16th Uber Cup title after Olympic champion Chen Yufei, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan and He Bingjiao took down their opponents.
2. Wang Chuqin to spearhead China's table tennis roster for Paris Olympics
Wang Chuqin and Fan Zhendong will represent China in table tennis men's singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Chinese Table Tennis Association announced on May 7.
This means reigning Olympic champion Ma Long will not be able to challenge a historic triple men's singles gold.
Wang will also pair up with Sun Yingsha to compete in the mixed doubles event. The world No. 1 duo demonstrated their strength as they claimed the title of the 2024 World Table Tennis (WTT) Saudi Smash on May 9.
3. Xinjiang returns to CBA Finals after five years
The Xinjiang Flying Tigers eased past the Zhejiang Golden Bulls 108-95 in Game 4 to clinch a 3-1 victory in the best-of-five Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) playoff semifinals on May 9.
The last time Xinjiang reached the CBA Finals was in 2019 when they lost to the Guangdong Southern Tigers 4-0.
Xinjiang now awaits the winner between the Liaoning Flying Leopards and Guangdong, who will put on their decisive Game 5 on May 11.
4. Zheng Qinwen marches into Italian Open last-32
Zheng Qinwen breezed past Shelby Rogers of the United States 6-2, 6-0 in the second round at the Italian Open in Rome on May 9.
The No. 7 seed will face Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic in the round of 32.
Zheng's compatriot Wang Xinyu lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round, while Wang Yafan and Wang Xiyu fell in the first round.
5. Liu Yukun breaks world record for men's 50m rifle 3 positions gold at Baku World Cup

Liu Yukun won the gold medal in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event with a new world record of 467.3 points at the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan on May 9.
His teammate Du Linshu bagged a silver with 466.1 points, equaling the previous world record set by Jiri Privratsky of the Czech Republic last year in the same range. The result was also a new world junior record.
Du also took a silver in the 10m air rifle mixed team event with Han Jiayu on May 4, second to compatriots Sheng Lihao and Huang Yuting, and another silver in the individual event on May 6, behind Sheng again.
Xie Yu won the men's 10m air pistol gold on May 4 and Lyu Jianlin triumphed in the men's skeet on May 9, cementing China's top position in the medal tally with five gold medals so far. ■
