
BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 3.03 percent to 2,906.11 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2 percent higher at 8,856.22 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 891.5 billion yuan (about 125.5 billion U.S. dollars), a marked increase from 766.9 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks of state-owned enterprises and real estate developers, along with Shanghai-based equities, emerged as top performers.
The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.45 percent to close at 1,720.78 points. ■
