The water supplement in Gannan accounted for about half the river's total runoff at the source region. To better guard the ecology of this area, staff members of the national nature reserves in Gannan have spared no efforts in protecting wild animals and plants on the plateau. Thanks to their long-term hard work, the deterioration of the natural and ecological environment in the region has been radically curbed, and Gannan has witnessed the rising population of diverse wild animals. The highway was originally linked with a bridge that was destroyed in recent heavy floods. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Friday that more than 38,640 people have been displaced in the most affected areas in northeastern Libya after heavy floods triggered by Mediterranean storm Daniel swept the region. The IOM said in a statement that 2,217 buildings were destroyed alone in Derna, the port city that has been hit hardest by Libya's worst floods in decades. Mahalapye, located approximately 200 kilometers north of Gaborone, capital city of Botswana, has long grappled with water supply challenges. In the past, the local water treatment plant had a daily capacity of 16 mega liters, falling short of the 20 mega liters demanded by residents. In 2022, an upgrade project overseen by China State Construction Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CSCEC) in Botswana was successfully completed. This initiative introduced a new facility with an 18 mega-liter capacity, substantially boosting the plant's daily maximum output to 34 mega liters. The newly installed purifying tank not only reduces maintenance costs and saves energy, but also improved water quality with the addition of activated carbon filtration and chlorine dioxide disinfection processes.
